Dell is guilty of fraud, false advertising, deceptive business practices, and abusive debt collection practices, according to a ruling by the New York State Supreme Court. Damages have yet to be determined, but Dell maintains that it is committed to offering the best possible service. I have always claimed that I’d never buy a Dell machine. This proves exactly why I will not. The list in this article is unbelievably long and it’s remarkable what all Dell was able to get away with. Their machines have never worked for me and this just gives me another reason never to support them.
Yaaaaaaaa, I’m glad you switched back. Thanks.
We have a Dell. I guess we were lucky the worse thing we experienced is the long hours on the phone and I do mean ‘hours’ literally when we needed help. And some really bad experiences with so called technicians that didn’t know anymore then I did, leaving me waiting while they looked things up.
Some help hey. lol
So for future reference what brand do you suggest??
I’m going to disagree with you both – dell has the best “bang for buck” , and as long as you stick to their commodity offerings that sell well you shouldn’t even have to deal with their tech support (it used to be worse… trust me).
Sure, they do sell some lemons, but I’ve found that these were mostly non-standard equipment.
WRT the business practices, I don’t think they’ve done anything that the other big tech companies haven’t. I’ll add an additional call to figure out what you suggest…
don’t hate me cause i just bought a new pewter and it’s a whomp-ass C2D Dell
You want to know about woe and trouble and nasty debt collection and crappy hardware and zilch customer service? HP, my previous computer. (Also, just to sweeten the pot, HB packed my computer with WindowsME.)
I was a little fatter this time around and got my Dell via a very dependable and smart local computer tech firm. And bought a service contract so for the next 3 years, my very brilliant and dedicated Tek Todd will come to my house and Make It Work.
But so far, the thing works like a champ.
I was drooling over the Alienware machine, but Tek Todd, who is wildly conservative, refused to sell me one, and demanded I get a Dell like the ones he installs for dentists and real estate agencies.
My crazy brother showed me his amazing Alienware machine. I’d be envious, except he says it hasn’t worked for a year and he can’t manage to get it fixed.
