If this is your idea of democracy… maybe you shouldn’t be spreading it.

This article on arstechnica a few days ago caught my eye, as it highlights the serious problems with the voting system in the US. Today there was another detailed post highlighting some real-world examples of the problems manifesting themselves in the system.

A lot of the comments immediately jump to arguments about the problem in how it relates to Republicans or Democrats… but I think that misses the point. The essence, I think, is that if the system has no way of confirming and verifying that the vote you placed is actually what’s been counted… do you actually have a voice? At what point between being able to vote and actually having that vote count does the idea of democracy actually fail to exist?
