Missing Mary Road

what if…?

August 9th, 2005 by Abbas Halai

what if the mission to the moon had failed and neil and buzz and ‘the other guy’ got stuck up there. well, it seems like nixon had a plan. click through the four pages for a contingency speech that nixon’s aides had written up for him in case the astronauts got stuck on the moon.

wanna play catch?

August 9th, 2005 by Abbas Halai

following from our previous two stories about robots, here comes a story of a robot that has been developed to catch high speed projectiles. how high is the speed you ask? 300 kph i tell you. and of course it won’t get tired either.

the robot arm that can be seen pictured here has been developed such that its array of 32 by 48 photodetectors in each of its three fingers to allow it to rotate it’s “wrist” 180 degrees in less than 0.1 second.

here is a demo video. (9.4 MB WMV file)

postscript: the video looks a bit freaky.

top10

August 9th, 2005 by Abbas Halai

cnet came up with a couple of interesting top 10 lists recently. one of my favourite lists that they brought up was top 10 technologies that are now missing in action. i can so totally relate to them.

  1. Manned space exploration
  2. Kozmo.com
  3. Napster
  4. The Concorde
  5. GM’s EV1
  6. The original Palm Pilot
  7. Good keyboards
  8. Wires
  9. LPs
  10. The Newton

some of those idea’s and technologies were revolutionary and just aren’t available anymore. go through their site, to see why they are missed. for me personally, i really miss kozmo.com, good keyboards, and wires.

see also, cnet’s top 10 dot.com flops.

deedat passes away

August 9th, 2005 by Abbas Halai

sheikh ahmed deedat has passed away. very sad news. i was a big fan of his islam vs. christian evangelism debates, especially the one which he had versus bible thumping (and getting caught repeatedly with prostitutes) jimmy swaggart about the Bible being the word of God which was dubbed as the greatest debate of the century. rest in peace brother deedat.
