On November 2, the residents of Denver, Colorado passed the Alcohol-Marijuana Equalization Initiative. With 100% of precincts reporting, the final tally for the vote was 56,001 YES votes to 48,632 NO votes, approximately 54% - 46%. The measure changed city law to allow for possession of up to an ounce of marijuana for adults 21 and over. The act is largely symbolic, though, as state and federal laws supersede local law, and authorities have already stated that state possession laws would be applied. However hope remains, for the passage of the initiative marks Denver as the first area in the nation to legalize private use of marijuana, for recreational as well as medical use. Is the legalization of marijuana at the federal level now within our reach? Read on.

sorry for the disappearing act. i’ve been down with the flu and a bit busy with a few things, hence the disappearing act. so let’s get back to blogging randomly weird things. first things first.
an update on riya.
it’s still in alpha testing mode. you still can’t sign up voluntarily. though if i have you in my dataset and the software has recognized you, i can share images with you and riya will sign you up with an account. it’s kicking ass more and more every single day. there are a few bugs and it’s still a bit clunky but the team is very responsive if you give them feedback about it. plus, things are constantly changing on a daily basis. munjal and tara do a great job of documenting such changes on their blogs. hopefully they launch their firefox version soon. this is the first time in about two years that i have launched IE on my desktop. the things i do for friends. i’ve found people in my dataset that have also been tagged automatically even though i didn’t train it to do so. this probably means some other alpha testers have the same people in their datasets and riya was smart enough to figure it out. more on riya later.
next thing in the news, a pakistani group just launched pakistan’s first first person shooter. unfortunately the story line sucks royally. not every pakistani’s aim is to take over kashmir and hate india. it’s a good start nevertheless.
next in line, buddy buys a brand new dell 600m laptop. finds a hardware key logger installed within it. calls dell about it due to surprise and is quoted, “The intregrated service tag identifier is there for assisting customers in the event of lost or misplaced personal information.” so he calls the police and to his surprise they forward him to the department of homeland security!! you’ll be shocked to know how they respond. click here to find out.
