hand sanitizing is a farce

January 8th, 2007 by abbas

so this has bugged me ever since they started becoming the norm and are now in your face every which place. how the heck do hand sanitizers work? in reality, they really don’t. i could never figure out where the crap on your hand goes if you rub this darned gel around. all marketing gimmicks really. i looked up howstuffworks.com, usually my source for all things mysterious with everything ranging from car remote key fobs to the death star. they don’t have an entry for hand sanitizers. wikipedia linked above, shares nothing either. the only half decent entry about the darned things was found on about.com, and all they tell us is that it’s no substitute for soap and water. from what i gather, the alcohol content in the sanitizing gel dissolves the oils on your skin and then vaporizes to give you a clean, cool feel on your hands. nowhere does it explain though when it vapourizes, what happens to the dissolved oils? that’s the equivalent of cleaning salt and sugar with water and then letting the water evaporate, you’ll still be left with sugar and salt crystals! so for all you females out there carrying these damn things in your purses trying to convince me to use these things, do yourself a favour and buy some soap. google all you want.

God has told Pat Robertson that America will be savagely attacked in the second half of 2007: “I’m not saying necessarily nuclear, the Lord didn’t say nuclear,” Mr Robertson said on his television show The 700 Club. “It’ll be mass killing, possibly millions of people, major cities. “The evil people will come after this country and there’s a possibility, not a possibility, a definite certainty, that chaos is going to rule.” Mr Robertson told viewers they should not be afraid because “if you get blown up or something, you go to heaven; that’s the worst thing that will happen to you”.

Here is a link to the video in which he unveils his divine truth.Mr. Robertson was previously written about by me as well.

et tu brute

the title makes up the classic famous last words of julius caesar. here’s a list of famous people and their last words. chaplin is below.

Charlie Chaplin was a British actor who became a Hollywood star after joining with Max Sennet during a music hall tour of the United States in 1913.  He is usually remembered for his silent picture roles as a little man with a mustache wearing a baggy suit and derby.  Many consider Chaplin to be cinema’s greatest comedian.  When the priest, who was attending him on his deathbed, said “May the Lord have mercy on your soul,” Chaplin quickly replied, “Why not?  After all, it belongs to him.”

bloggers vs. corporate america

January 8th, 2007 by abbas

My brother sent along a link. It’s about a fellow named Spocko and a radio station named KSFO.
Beginning in 2005, the blogger Spocko began a letter writing campaign to advertisers on KSFO pointing out the hate speech on the station and urging them to withdraw their sponsorship. Some advertisers, including Visa, did. On December 22, 2006, Spocko received a cease and desist letter from ABC lawyers, insisting that he remove audio clips of KSFO radio hosts claiming that he had violated fair use doctrine of copyright law. Spocko refused, claiming he was within the legal definitions of fair use. On January 2, 2007 his Internet service provider, 1&1 Internet, took down his website. This could potentially evolve into a legal precedent as the Electronic Frontier Foundation has agreed to defend Spocko against threats of a DMCA SLAPP suit.

Spocko’s statement on the controversy:

“Advertisers should be able to decide if they want to keep supporting this show based on complete information. We already know that management at ABC and Disney support these hosts, which means that the ABC/Disney Radio brand now apparently includes support for violent hate speech toward Muslims, democrats and liberals.”

Mike Stark brought this to the attention of the mainstream via citizen internet journalism through postings such as this one at Daily Kos and the use of the exceptional Spotlight Project.

Read through to figure out what Spocko was going on about and why it was such a big deal and to what extent Corporations will go to defend hate speech and right wing nutters.
